Is our consciousness in the physical brain? or the data within it?

I believe that consciousness or awareness, as different from sensing, is a function of mind and not the physical brain (neither hardware nor software).... mind, in my view, is a virtual entity created by the physical brain through accumulated experience.... I won't call this entity as 'data' because it has the capability to change itself without any external influence and it is this quality that is called consciousness..... it's conscious rather than being just sensitive and sensible.
