Why did my camera phone pick up this which I couldn't see with my eyes?

I swear to whichever thing you want to believe in, I can out-stupid that. I know someone who genuinely thought the sun and the moon were the same thing and that the moon wasn't as bright as the sun because it'd 'gone out'.
